Biography

Darren Moore is a senior research engineer and project leader at the Autonomous Systems Laboratory. He holds Bachelors degrees in engineering and information technology, and a research Masters degree in microphone array speech enhancement. Before joining CSIRO in November 2005 he worked as an embedded software engineer for Motorola, and as a speech recognition research engineer for the IDIAP research institute in Switzerland.

Darren started with CSIRO as a research engineer working on text classification for medical applications. In November 2007 he transferred to his current position in the Wireless Sensor Networks team within the Autonomous Systems Laboratory. From 2009-2011 he led a project to build a 175-node, 600-sensor wireless sensor network for densely monitoring rainforest restoration, and is currently driving the development of an embedded audio processing platform for long-term bioacoustic monitoring. He has substantial hands-on experience developing embedded software for the Atmel Atmega1281 microcontroller and Analog Devices Blackfin DSP, as well as PC software in C/C++ and Python.

His engineering expertise and interests lie in embedded software development, wireless sensor networks, acoustic signal processing, and environmental monitoring.
